A dream in Shambala

Dream in Shambhala: A Spiritual Roadtrip to the Center of the World’s Energy: Khamar Monastery, Dornogovi Province, Mongolia 44°36′55.4″N 110°16′37.35″E

I try to avoid “knowing too much” environmental information, and everything that is being wasted every day. Technological and economic evolution in contemporary life is too fast and powerful, but it’s dangerous too… While constantly realizing that we are living in such times, creative experiments are taking place in the midst of the discovery of “our” root data.

It is thought that human intuition and spirituality can awaken when in a deep state of disconnection from the environment. Those moments feel alive. What takes things to that state, according to the artist, are the moment, the process of creation, and the phenomenon of bringing others into the cycle. Consciousness and unconsciousness, madness and peace, yin yang… There is no limit, but if it is already there, it becomes polarization. My work focuses on the process of finding a balance between these many dimensions, or of breaking down an abstract system that seems to be balanced.

Mongolia’s Gobi is spiritual, mysterious and fabulous. This place is known as the ancient seabed of our planet, the cradle of history, the “energy center” and the “land of Shambhala.” The piece on show here is an experimental short film that combines nomadic wisdom with contemporary language. Where do nomadic minds migrate today in the midst of ever-changing natural challenges? And what do they migrate with? Will this continue to exist in the midst of the contemporary mindset? Or wander after them? Or try to maintain a unique nomadic mentality while trying to communicate with humanity in a modern way? Amidst such reflections, you can feel the inner explosion, the anxiety, and meditation as an attempt to focus on emptiness.

Davaajargal Tsaschikher

Davaajargal Tsaschikher (DVJRGL) is one of the leading contemporary artists in Mongolia; he has profoundly influenced the development of the country’s sound and media art. In the past he has been invited to take part in numerous important international exhibitions, such as 57th Venice Biennale (Italy), Today Art Festival (Holland), Taipei Dangdai (Taiwan) and others. His works have been displayed in over 40 exhibitions in his home country and abroad, and he has collaborated with Mongolian traditional musicians as well as artists from France, Germany, Belgium, Bulgaria, Taiwan and the USA.

Davaajargal is also vocalist and musician in the well-known Mongolian ethno-rock band Mohanik. Mohanik have performed at numerous music festivals and showcases in Mongolia, Russia, China, Korea and Japan. Mohanik @ Amarbayasgalant (2013), their second album, was highly influenced by Mongolian traditional melodies and modern rock elements combined with the nomadic philosophy. Davaajargal is a founding member of contemporary art movement “Human – Nature – Love – Freedom” (est. 2013). This artists’ collective has been part of over 20 exhibitions, mostly with his sound compositions, installations and mixed-media works.
